Makeup has been a ritual in human culture for centuries, but the recent looks, trends, products, and techniques seem to vary and change every now and then. Though we certainly draw inspiration from Cleopatra’s cat eye or Marilyn Monroe’s bright red lip, latest makeup routine looks quite a bit dissimilar than what it used to be like years ago. While makeup and skincare blogs launch all the time, we often go back to our certain makeup experts over and again, because they have been the pillars of the makeup community and their know-how and experiences are unprecedented.
As in the case with almost every makeup product we purchase, the quest to find the ideal foundation for your complexion and skin type can leave you overwhelmed in a dilemma by the choices. There are ample different textures, ingredients, and formulas out there, and we know selecting the right foundation isn’t a cakewalk. To help you wade through the options, we caught up with the very much known makeup queen and artist Meenakshi Dutt for her valuable advice on how to choose the perfect foundation for your skin type. Check out her expert suggestions, ahead:
For Acne-Prone Skin
If acne is a major concern for your skin, Meenakshi Dutt suggests a medium to full coverage foundation. While applying this product, do use a ” clean brush or a clean sponge every application applying the foundation in a stippling motion.”
Try: L’Oréal Infallible Pro-Matte 24 Hour Foundation or NYX Professional Makeup Total Control Drop Foundation
Heavy foundation can settle easily inside wrinkles and fine lines so choose a light coverage liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer for radiant and younger looking skin.
Try: Derma blend Flawless Creator mixed with your favorite moisturizer or IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream
To quench your dry skin throughout the day, Meenakshi recommends a light coverage, hydrating foundation. When applying your product, use your “fingers and press the product into the skin,” for longer-lasting coverage.
Try: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation or L’Oréal True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup
To dump the shine, select a medium to full coverage foundation. When applying your foundation using a ” brush or a sponge as using your fingers can transfer the oil from your hands on to your face,” Meenakshi says.
Try: Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation or Maybelline Fit Me Shine-Free + Balance Stick Foundation
If you have a combination skin, you can opt whether you want to be more on the dewy side or go for a matte look. But a slightly matte based foundation will keep the T-zone oiliness at bay and you can always for a slight glow apply a highlight to your cheeks. Your coverage and application tool entirely depends upon you but try to avoid using your fingers on your oily area as to avoid clogging your pores.
Try: Yves Saint Laurent All Hours Foundation or Maybelline Fit Me! Matte & Poreless Foundation
Sensitive skin likes to act up, so stay away and avoid from foundations that are very heavy or too fragranced. If you wish to keep any and all aggressors to a minimum, which is why mineral foundations are always an ideal option. The coverage should be on the lighter side and application should always be done using a clean sponge or a clean brush so that nothings reacts on your skin.
Try: L’Oréal Paris True Match Mineral Foundation or La Roche-Posay Matte Foundation for Sensitive Skin
